As you may be aware, BS8102 is the main design guide for structural (basement) waterproofing in the UK and Ireland. The 1990 document was revised by a BSI panel incorporating experts from across the industry, then with a public consultation, leading to the document coming into effect on November 30th, 2009.
BS8102 states that “a waterproofing specialist should be included as part of the design team so that an integrated waterproofing solution is created”. The principle objective of this advice is to have Specifiers approach experts who can ensure that the produced design is correct for a given site.
The emphasis on the inclusion of a waterproofing specialist is to ensure that project specific design is undertaken rather than just lifting standard designs from manufacturer’s technical data sheets that may not be compatible with the specific requirements of the project at hand.
“The waterproofing specialist could be the manufacturer or material supplier, provided that the manufacturer/ supplier has the relevant expertise”. SURFASOLOGY is one such supplier. Our Technical & Specification Manager, Michael McDonagh, is a Certificated Surveyor in Structural Waterproofing (CSSW) accredited by the Property Care Association (PCA).
Michael is one of the few, if not the only, qualified CSSW in the Republic of Ireland.
At SURFASOLOGY, it is our number one priority to ensure that we offer you suitable and reliable solutions that comply BS Standards, CE Standards and other applicable design guides. We understand that standard details on products’ application and installation available from manufacturers are not absolute. For this reason, we tailor waterproofing designs and product options to an individual site and structure considering all the necessary factors.
Should you need the assistance of a waterproofing specialist on your current or planned project, please do not hesitate to contact Michael on 01-8321005.
