Our Story

1976
IBC was founded

IBC Limited (Irish Building Chemicals) was established in Dublin,Ireland in 1976 by founder Tim Grace. Tim, a qualified and experienced Industrial Chemist, had a vision to locally manufacture and distribute construction chemicals throughout the island of Ireland and developed his embryonic company into a leading player in the Irish market over the next 30 years. Tim's driving ambition was to be the "best" and he surrounded himself with like-minded individuals who shared his vision and passion for the industry.

1979
A new Product facility is open
IBC soon established itself as a leader in niche markets, like Concrete Admixture and Timber Preservatives,as well as enjoying a strong poistion in the traditional building chemicals market. In 1979 a new production facility was opened in Baldoyle,North Country Dubin and within two years the organisations success required this planet to be doubled in size.
2001
Stategic alliance

In 2001, IBC entered into a Strategic Alliance with Degussa Construction Chemicals, at that time the world's leading construction chemical supplier, to market and distribute the Degussa Concrete Admixtures and Construction Chemicals alongside the IBC range.

2005
Tim becomes chairman

At the end of 2005,Tim Grace assumed the poistion of Chairman of IBC Limtied and relinquished his role as Managing Director of IBC after 30 successful years at the helm.

2006
Alliance was a success

Alliance with Degussa Construction chemicals was a mutually successful relationship which led to Degussa purchasing share in a newly formed Concrete Admixtures Joint Venture in 2006

2011
The End of a Chapter

Within months of the JV formation in 2006 Degussa CC was purchased by BASF, the world’s largest chemical company, giving the JV business access to even greater global resources. In 2011 BASF completed the purchase of the remaining shares of this JV business from the Grace family.

2013
A new name underpinned by old values

The IBC Management Team took the decision to rebrand the Company to SURFASOLOGY to underpin the new direction of the Company and its focus on the cleaning, sealing, protecting, repairing, and enhancing of construction surfaces.
