Sligo Courthouse – described as “the most impressive High Victorian building outside of Dublin” – was built in 1878 on the site of a former courthouse, part of which has been retained as a link with Sligo’s turbulent history. The exterior of Sligo Courthouse was built largely of sandstone, which had been brought in from the quarries of Mountcharles in Co. Donegal.Between 1998 and 2001 Sligo Courthouse underwent major refurbishment works, during which the unique style and qualities of the existing building were retained.
Recently the building became subject to severe water ingress from driving rain and SURFASOLOGY were commissioned to investigate the problem and to provide a long term solution.
SURFASOLOGY specified that the walls be treated with SURFASCLEAN Fungicidal Wash – masonry biocide, and SurfaPore C, a deeply penetrating water repellent, be applied to the walls to prevent the water ingress and to protect the structure, whilst still retaining the stone’s natural appearance and allowing the surface to breathe.
